Congress President Rahul Gandhi, hours after appointing his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, was full of excitement during his very first interaction with the media post the big changes in the party.
In a very cheerful mood, the Congress president lauded his party's decision to appoint two young guns - Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia - as in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East and West respectively ahead of the Lok Sabha 2019 polls.
"Congress is fighting the battle of ideology. We never play on the backfoot, we play in frontfoot. Be it Priyanka, or Jyotiraditya, we will fight in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka and Jyotidaritya have been given a mission in Uttar Pradesh to fight for the Congress, poor's ideology. I have trust in them that they will work, and what UP wants, Congress will give them. We will not be in backfoot in any place. We do politics for the people. From this, a new ideology will come in UP and a positive change will come in UP," he said.
Rahul Gandhi also spoke about his personal satisfaction of working with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the future, and mentioned that the decision was good for both the party and for him personally.
"I am very happy that my sister, who is very capable, will work with me. I am personally very happy. Jyotiraditya is very dynamic leader. I want to tell people, youth and farmers of UP, a lot of time has been wasted. BJP's government was formed, and now they have ruined the state. Remove them, and we will give a new direction to the state and make it No.1. If you are UP youth, you can see how the leaders have ruined your state. The decision taken by Congress is a good one. BJP is scared," the Congress president added.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Congress party inducted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra into politics. In an official statement, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced that Priyanka Gandhi has been appointed as the General secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, and will take charge from February 1.
The party also took to Twitter to inform of the new appointments and decisions.
The other major decisions also taken by the Congress President were also stated in the letter. Senior party leader KC Venugopal was appointed as the general secretary of AICC (organisation), Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed as the General secretary of Uttar Pradesh West, while Ghulam Nabi Azad was relieved from his post of General secretary of Uttar Pradesh.
