Amid the election battle between political parties in the poll-bound Rajasthan, BJP leader Narpat Singh Rajvi has sparked a controversy with his 'not our voters' comment on Thursday. A Candidate from Rajasthan's Vidhyadhar district, Mr. Narpat embarrassed his party when he was addressing the media. When a reporter questioned him: "Is your party playing Hindu card?", he said the following.
"Where is our voting strength? We will give the tickets to those candidates who are good and have a powerful voting strength. We can't distribute tickets just for show and to appease people. We do have workers but not in good numbers. Those who do not vote for us, don't get tickets. Habib-ur-Rehman followed Congress' ideology, he never belonged to BJP in Nagaur"
This is the first time after ticket declaration that any BJP leader has given such direct comment on the ticket not been given to the minority. This comment comes after BJP's Nagaur MLA Habibur Rahman re-joined the Congress after a decade. Meanwhile, assembly elections are scheduled to take place in Rajasthan on December 7 which will be carried in a single phase.
With just few days left for the Rajasthan Assembly elections, a war of words between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) had erupted. Both Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot and Rajasthan's Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have got involved in a verbal spat questioning each other's personal roots and origin in the state.
Sachin Pilot has hit out at the BJP MLA by questioning 'her association with the state' while claiming that 'he has been in Rajasthan since he was two-and-a-half-years-old'.
"I came to this holy land when I was 2.5 years old. My late father was a pilot with the Air Force. My sister was born in Hyderabad where he was posted. I was born in Army Hospital, when was posted there. So, I have been associated with this land since I was 2.5 years old when my father contested for elections for the first time in 1979 from Bharatpur. BJP was not in existence at that time. So, I have connections with this since a long time. However, our Chief Minister has been associated with this land when she was 23-24 years old,” said Sachin Pilot while addressing a rally in Rajasthan.
In retaliation to the state Congress president’s remarks, the BJP MLA replied by saying ‘meri doli yaha aayi thi aur meri arthi bhi yahi se jayegi’ in Hindi, which translates to ‘I came here (Rajasthan) after marriage and my final rite will also be performed in this very state only.’
