In a measure of just how much the Ayodhya Ram Mandir issue has catapulted to the top of the public's consciousness, crowds gathered on the occasion of the Deepostav festival celebrations in Ayodhya on Tuesday managed to drown out the start of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath's speech, by seemingly chanting slogans demanding the Ram Mandir.
The chanting happened when CM Yogi Adityanath took the stage to make a speech. The moment he started the speech, the gathering chanted slogans demanding Ram Mandir, drowning out Yogi Adityanath's voice.
CM Yogi had begun his speech by chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram'. The crowd responded to this and repeated the chants with him. The moment he started his speaking, the crowd erupted into slogans of 'Mandir Yahi Banayenge' and other calls to build the temple.
Since the day after the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing in the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site case till at least January 2019, Yogi Adityanath has been gradually upping the ante over the matter.
When asked about his opinion about the demand of some BJP members to create a law for allowing the building of Ram Mandir at the disputed site, he had said the work will soon start there. He had also said there would be an important announcement soon about the issue on the occasion of the Deepotsav festival.
Yogi had also invited Hindu seers who had demanded an ordinance to build the temple to the festival.
The event has many important dignitaries attending, including South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook.
Update: Yogi Adityanath went on to make four announcements at the Ayodhya Deepotsav celebrations, focusing on the development of the city.
