Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has openly mocked Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, hailing Rahul Gandhi in the same breath.
Addressing a news briefing, Sidhu was asked about Captain Amarinder Singh saying that he was against Sidhu going to Pakistan for the Kartarpur Corridor's groundbreaking ceremony, to which Sidhu said:
"Mera captain Rahul Gandhi hai. Ussi ne toh bheja hai har jagah. Kya baat kar rahe ho yaar? Kaun se captain ke baare me baat kar rahe ho yaar? Oh, Captain Amarinder Singh ji ki? Woh toh Army ke captain hain bhai. Mera captain Rahul Gandhi saab hain aur unke bhi Captain Rahul Gandhi hain. Humaare captain woh hain. Captain saab ke captain Rahul Gandhi aur mere Captain bhi Rahul Gandhi."
This translates to:
"My captain is Rahul Gandhi. He sent me everywhere. What are you talking about? Which captain are you talking about? Oh, Captain Amarinder Singh ji? He's a Captain in the Army my brother. My captain is Rahul Gandhi sir and even his (Captain Amarinder Singh's) captain is Rahul Gandhi. He is our captain. Captain Sir's captain and my captain is Rahul Gandhi"
The video comes in the midst of Sidhu issuing back-to-back statements that it was the Congress high-command that had sent him to Pakistan, purportedly in his 'personal capacity', following which he went out of his way to create controversy, once again engaging with Pak Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, extolling Imran Khan with numerous superlatives, and being photographed with a known Khalistani separatist and Hafiz Saeed-aide.
However, Captain Amarinder, while speaking exclusively to Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami had said that he had asked Sidhu to not go to Pakistan, and had even told him that he had 'no business' hugging Pak Army chief Bajwa.
"I don't know why he has a habit of doing these things. Probably he has been on Camera so often that he says these things without thinking. But the thing is that I raise this point last time when he hugged General Bajwa. I told him this was no business of you to do because every day my soldiers are being shot. My own battalion lost a major and two Jawans a few weeks ago".
"Things are happening all the time. Who has given these orders? Bajwa has given these orders. The policies carried out by Bajwa and the troops on-ground follow these instructions. And then you go and hug this sort of a character", he added.
Captain Amarinder had issued a warning to Gen Bajwa while speaking at the Kartarpur corridor's foundation stone laying ceremony in Gurdaspur just days before the events in Pakistan, and had declined Pakistan's invite to the same event Sidhu ended up going to.
On being asked about Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's denial to his visiting Pakistan, Navjot Singh Sidhu, speaking to a reporter, asserted that while the CM had told him not to go, there was approval from 20 leaders and central leadership of the Congress party for his visit. Furthermore, he also boasted about being offered the position of a minister by Pakistan PM Imran Khan in the neighbouring country as well.
