Reacting to news that he had insulted voters calling them idiots, Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav, on Saturday, has revealed the context under which he said the above comment.

The former AAP leader wrote on Twitter that the 45-second clip released by news channels were misquoting him and has said that he was talking about why one should not insult voters by paraphrasing "lots of friends".

In the video marked by him, he is heard saying that in his own constituency - Gurugram when he lost he felt like holding voters by their collars saying 'you idiots' as he had warned them that 'PM Modi was the biggest liar in Indian history of politics'.

"In my constituency Gurugram, I issued a special request to voters - Please defeat BJP at any cost. I said that this Prime Minister is the biggest liar we have had in the history of our country. Voters did not listen to me one bit. I am sad, angry and dejected. I want to hold them by the collars and say- you idiots," he said addressing a panel discussion by Centre for policy research.

After BJP swept Delhi in the Lok Sabha elections, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had written a letter to his volunteers specifying two reasons for the failure of his party in the general elections.

Firstly, he stated that the 'atmosphere that prevailed in the country rubbed off on Delhi as well,' and secondly, he claimed that people saw this "big election" only between PM Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, thus voted accordingly.

The BJP won all seven seats in the national capital region while both AAP and Congress failed to make a mark.
