As the infrastructure development of India soars higher, it has stimulated unprecedented growth in the country's retail and manufacturing sections. Speaking of how India will be shifting gears between 2019-2024 with a new government, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari answered one massive question- If this government gets an extension of another term, how different will the government function in terms of development in financial, business and industrial sectors.

Gadkari, at the Republic Summit 2018, explored the topic of 'Shifting Gears: 2019-2024", elaborately discussing the Opposition alliance. He spent a chunk of his time addressing the trending political issues, Mahagathbandhan, being one of them.

Responding on the coalition of the Opposition parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, the former BJP president pronounced that 'Mahagathbandhan' is synonymous to the alliance of the weak.

First time ever, commenting on the topic, he said, "I am close to everyone, but this is not my calculative politics. I don't want to compromise on that, I am what I am. I tell people, this is who I am, if you want to vote for me or not is your choice. Nobody dies upon losing. There are two characters of Mahaghatbandhan- first people who are weak do Mahagathbandhan. Secondly they now know that they are in trouble and have no power to fight that's when they all decide to unite. So the one who is anemic, weak or defeated, the alliance of such strength-less people is called "Mahagatbandhan"."

"This Mahagatbandhan is between those who did not even greet each other, smile at each other or shared a cup of tea and the credit goes to Modiji and BJP, that because of us they are friends now. (Arnab) Goswamiji, you can do a program on this alliance of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati, there were such fights," he further added, creating a laughing riot in the audience.

Further giving insights on 'alliance' in politics he narrated an incident from the Indira era.

He said, "When I was a college student, there was an alliance formed against Indira Gandhi that had Samajwadi Party and Jana Sangha. The equation was that the alliance would win, but Indira Gandhi won that election. Remember there is never 2+2 in politics, 2+2 is 2.5 or 3."

Confidently, the Union Minister spoke how the BJP would sweep the Central elections,  he said, "The elections are different for the district, regional and national levels. The development agenda that we are working towards and the work that did not happen for 50 years is happening in 5 and we are confident that at Lok Sabha elections, we will win. Don't calculate on the basis of Assembly elections."

During his address, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways delved into various other issues, where he laid across a developmental vision on road and water transport, linking different means of transport, tackling pollution and even the concerns of the farmers.

He said, "As far as the future of our country is concerned, we are a rich nation with a poor population. The basis problem is wrong economic policies, bad and corrupt governance and vision-less leadership. You can donate eye but you can't donate vision."

"The most important thing with our government under PM Modi is that he's given a very appropriate vision for the development of the country," he said
