In a surprising turn of event, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav declared in the Lok Sabha that he wants PM Narendra Modi back as the next Prime Minister.
While addressing the members of Parliament, standing right next to Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, his words were, "We want you to become the Prime Minister once again."
Mulayam Singh also laid heaps of praises on PM Modi in the Parliament.
"It's our wish that all MPs should win again. This is my heart felt wish. (inaudible) it's very difficult to manage the (unclear). The chair you are sitting on. You have to please every MP in this parliament. It's very difficult to please and not everyone can be pleased. We have experienced this whenever we argue.
When he talks, I would only like to say, you have managed the parliament really well. I want to congratulate the Prime Minister. Prime Minister, you have worked for everyone. This is absolutely correct, whenever I asked for something you immediately ordered for it. Anything wrong, you corrected it. I really appreciate and respect you for taking everyone along. (inaudible) It's really difficult to please everyone. But still, nobody speaks against you or makes any comment against you. For this, I would like to congratulate you. And I hope, along with the Parliament that you should win again. This is my wish. We couldn't win the majority. We want you to become the Prime Minister once again," he said.
Mulayam Singh's son Akhilesh Yadav, who is the Samajwadi Party chief, has been persistently opposing the Prime Minister and the BJP. He has constantly said that he would support parties with common ideologies of defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.
He has formed an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party for the polls. His party also supported the BSP's call for its chief Mayawati to be the Prime MInisterial candidate.
Akhilesh Yadav is currently in a tussle with the UP government alleging he was detained at the Lucknow airport by the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh to prevent him to attend an event in Allahabad University.
Following Yadav's claims, Prayagraj's district collector stated that politicians are not allowed in the University campus and due to which the SP chief was stopped at the airport.
