Almost five months after India's most wanted gangster and don Ravi Pujari was arrested by the Senegal Police in West Africa, Republic TV has accessed exclusive pictures of the fugitive criminal, who is currently lodged in a prison in West Africa, from sources in Senegal.
Speaking to Republic TV, ADGP of Karnataka Amar Kumar Pandey said:
"It was a highly coordinated effort between the two countries. Additional efforts were required as with time he looked at different. The most important thing is the cooperation we received was from Senegal authorities, apart from our own agencies working together."
He highlighted, "Ravi Pujari has been notorious underworld criminal and many states police and forces were looking for him. I was given the task, it was a difficult task but with the help of technology and hard work, we could locate him in Senegal. He was located earlier also in a different country but he managed to get away from there, then we lost track for a while but then with additional efforts we located him in Senegal. Local agencies in Senegal cooperated with us."
Ravi Pujari is wanted in a host of cases across India from Gujarat to Maharashtra to Karnataka. The long list of cases against him includes extortion, kidnapping, and murder.
After Republic TV accessed for the first time three super exclusive pictures of the dreaded gangster Ravi Pujari, Satish Mathur former DGP of Maharashtra said that if both the government cooperate with each other, then his extradition will be possible.
"First there has to be an extradition treaty between the two countries and then the documents have to be supplied. Those particular offences on which he is charged must be offences in that country. It depends on the cooperation between the two countries. If it is fast it can be done in two-three months time."
As per sources, the fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari ran the hotel chain in West Africa's Senegal under the name of Antony Fernandes for close to 8 years. As per sources, he has been in Africa for over a decade where he was living a luxurious life with his wife and kids as a hotelier in Senegal's capital Dakar. In a dramatic turn of events, he was arrested from a barber shop on January 21, 2019, in what was seen as a major win for India.
Earlier on February 1, days after his arrest, Republic TV had accessed exclusive images and details of the Indian restaurant he was running in Senegal's capital city Dakar by the name 'Namaste India'.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs is constantly in touch with the authorities in Senegal and are pushing for his deportation to India.
