Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday has hit back at Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his statements claiming that 'PM Narendra Modi does not know Hinduism'. While addressing a massive rally in Jodhpur in Rajasthan, ahead of assembly elections, PM Modi retaliated to Rahul Gandhi's statements by saying that the Congress party has been spreading lies, while using caste politics for election rather than the development of the people.
"The opposition is spreading lies against BJP. They are throwing dirt against us. Congress leaders talk about caste equation for election, rather than development. Congress says development is a useless thing. They are claiming that Modi doesn't know what Hinduism is. Hindutva is like the Himalayas - it is huge and full of cultures. Knowledge of Hinduism is higher than the mountains, deeper than the seas such that even saints have never been able to claim that they have complete knowledge of Hinduism. No one has ever claimed. So who am I to state that I know everything about Hinduism? But, Naamdaar(Rahul Gandhi) can claim that he has full knowledge of Hinduism," PM Modi said during the election rally.
He went onto hit back at Congress party for their questions against his caste, seeking an answer on the party's contributions towards the Hindu community.
"Their leaders have raised questions on the Sanatan Dharm. They are asking about the caste of Modi. I want to ask Congress which has ruled for four generations. Now it is time for them to reply what they have done these years. When during independence, foreigners invaded the Somnath Temple wanting to destroy it, then Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel pledged to reconstruct Somnath Mandir. But will Naamdaar reply what did the then Prime Minister(Jawaharlal Nehru) do for Somnath Mandir."
PM Modi later countered Rahul Gandhi's statement by saying that while his mother and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi challenged the existence of Lord Ram in a court:
"When there was UPA government at centre and your mother(Sonia Gandhi) used to run the remote, then Congress filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that Lord Rama has no history. They also said that Lord Rama is an imaginary character. Now they are asking me if Modi knows about Hinduism," he added.
On December 1, while addressing a gathering in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi had questioned PM Modi saying 'What type of Hindu is he?':
"What does Hinduism say? That knowledge is with everybody. PM Modi says he is a Hindu, but he does not understand the basic of Hinduism. What type of Hindu is he?" he said.
