All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi took the oath of duty on the second day of 17th Lok Sabha session, on Tuesday. However, as his name was called for the oath-taking, the MPs raised 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' chants in the lower house of Parliament.

As Asaduddin Owaisi started to walk to the podium for the oath-taking, chants were raised by MPs. Responding to this, the AIMIM chief prompted the MPs to raise the chant to even louder tone.

He signalled the MPs through his hand gesture to raise pitch of their chants.

Amid the chants, Asaduddin Owaisi, who is a three-time Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Hyderabad constituency in Lok Sabha, took his oath as MP. As he finished his oath, he said, "Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer Allahu Akbar, Jai Hind", as a response. In between the chants, he forgot to sign the register and was prompted by others for the same.

Later, speaking to media in the matter, Asaduddin Owaisi said that "It is good that they remember such things when they see me, I hope they will also remember the constitution and deaths of children in Muzaffarpur" while referring to the deaths of 130 children from encephalitis in Bihar.

This came in the light of the controversy during March 2016, when AIMIM MLAs Imtiaz Jaleel and Waris Pathan had faced heat for refusing to say 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' in Maharashtra assembly, following which Waris Pathan was suspended from the Assembly for the entire session. Again in 2017, the AIMIM leader was in the news for refusing to sing 'Vande Mataram'. He had refused to sing National Song “Vande Mataram” in the assembly and had said that he will not sing Vande Mataram even if “someone puts a revolver to his head”
