"We stand here today to shoulder to shoulder in the memory of Karunanidhi... let the message go to the people of Tamil Nadu that we stand united to protect the constitution of India. It's my desire that mutual support of our parties to each other remains as strong as when Karunanidhiji was guiding us, as we wage together a battle with political forces that are determined to destroy our constitutional values and the idea of India as we know it, she said.
It seems that the bells for Lok Sabha polls have been rung as the event saw many Opposition leaders present.
Rahul Gandhi also led the charge for a united force of Opposition parties to fight against the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls in 2019. MK Stalin and Chandrababu Naidu also spoke in the event.
They all were speaking at an event for the unveiling of DMK Patriarch M Karunanidhi's statue. The grand event was organised by Karunanidhi son and DMK President MK Stalin at party headquarters — Anna Arivalyam. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi unveiled the statue.
Apart from Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, former UPA Union Minister P Chidambaram, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Rajnikanth, BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha were in attendance for the event.
PM Narendra Modi also led an attack on the Congress from the party's home turf of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.
