  • West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee undertook a padyatra through Kolkata after unveiling the bust of 19th-century educationalist and reformist Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar on Tuesday afternoon
  • BJP leader Chandra K Bose claimed that Mamata had mastered the art of drama and accused the Trinamool of orchestrating the violence on May 14

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a march through the city after unveiling the bust of 19th-century educationalist and reformist Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar on Tuesday afternoon. This comes after the bust was vandalized when Trinamool workers and BJP workers clashed on May 14 during a roadshow led by Amit Shah ahead of the final phase of elections in the state.

Terming Mamata's act of trying to protect the Bengali pride, culture, and people as a drama, the great nephew of freedom fighter Subash Chandra Bose and BJP leader Chandra Kumar Bose said that the people of Bengal have learnt to see through Mamata's drama over the years and have had enough of her.

"I would like to congratulate Mamata Banerjee for mastering the art of drama. Mamata uses the drama to her own advantage, but the people have eventually understood this", he said.

Reacting to the incident that sparked political outrage and violence in Bengal following the vandalizing of Vidyasagar's bust, Chandra Kumar Bose said that the violence caused cannot be linked to the BJP as the state had no evidence of the attack being led by the BJP or people related to the BJP. "In fact, it was an attack orchestrated by the Trinamool goons to smear the BJP and create a bad name for us. Why haven't the Kolkata police or the government released CCTV footages of the incident until now? It clearly indicates that Mamata has the police in her hands and hence we don't expect an investigation to be done by them", he added.

Chandra K Bose pressed for an independent investigative agency to thoroughly investigate the matter and make the findings public. Stressing that the foundations and ideologies of the BJP rose from veteran Bengali freedom fighter Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, whom Chandra Bose claimed protected the state of Bengal from going into the hands of Pakistan.

"Our party is based on the ideologies of strong leaders such as Subash Chandra Bose, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, and Swami Vivekananda. We vow to protect the culture and pride of Bengal", he said.

Mamata Banerjee made a scathing attack on the BJP after unveiling the statue. She accused the BJP of being anti-Bengali and trying to oppress the Bengali pride, culture and the people. Targeting Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Mamata accused both of them of trying to turn the state of Bengal into 'another Gujarat' and she vowed to never allow it to happen. She also targeted Governor of Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi. Further, she reiterated the fact that Amit Shah was responsible for the violence caused on May 14, nine days before the Lok Sabha polls verdict had come out.
