West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee mourns the sudden demise of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit

Former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit passed away on Saturday, July 20, at the age of 81. As per media reports, she passed away while undergoing heart surgery in France.

Former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit passed away on Saturday, July 20, at the age of 81. As per media reports, she passed away while undergoing heart surgery in France. She took her last breath at 03:30 PM. Several political leaders and eminent personalities were grieved by the sudden demise of the veteran Congress leader. Many of them took to social media to pay condolence.  

Recently, Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee put out a post on social media mourning the loss. In the post, she said that she is 'deeply saddened' by the unfortunate death of the veteran political leader. Further remembering how she became MP when Dikshit was serving as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, she said, "She always maintained good relations with me. We will all really miss her."

Sheila Dikshit was born 31 March 1938 and who was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, serving for a period of 15 years from 1998 to 2013. She led Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. In the December 2013 elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Dikshit was defeated in New Delhi constituency by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, who replaced her as Delhi's chief minister.

Subsequently, she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014. The Congress party fought the recent Lok Sabha elections in Delhi under her leadership.
