Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s rally in West Bengal on Sunday has been denied permission by the Trinamool government in the state. Yogi Adityanath was scheduled to address a rally in North Dinajpur, near Malda on February 3. The BJP claims that the permission has been denied without any prior notice.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Office informed: The permission for the CM Yogi Adityanath's rally in West Bengal today has been declined by the West Bengal government without any prior notice.

Earlier in January, Shankar Chakraborty, BJP's North Dinajpur chief had informed about the rally of Yogi Adityanath. Addressing the media he had said:

“On February 3, Yogi Adityanath will speak at a public meeting that will be held in or around Raiganj. We have received confirmation from central leaders and want to prove our support base at the meeting. Our colleagues have chosen three prospective venues and informed the district administration".

On January 21, 2019, the BJP alleged that the West Bengal government had denied permission for the landing of a helicopter carrying its president Amit Shah at an airstrip in Malda, a charge Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said was "absolutely not true".

Hitting out at the state government, Union Minister Piyush Goyal claimed that it showed Banerjee was "scared" of his party's growing influence in the state.

"The desperation and fear of the Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee are clearly visible in this decision. The state government is trying to block every programme of Amit Shah, be it a rally, yatra or the landing of his chopper," he told reporters.

Goyal also sought comments from opposition parties like the Congress on the matter, saying if a BJP government had obstructed political programs of rival parties' leader, then it would be accused of "intolerance".

Denying the allegation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "For helicopter landing police gave all the permission. That's (the accusation) wrong."

"They are distorting and misinforming the people. It is absolutely not true," Banerjee told reporters at the Kolkata airport before leaving for Siliguri.
