On the upcoming episode of Nation Wants To Know With Arnab Goswami, veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor was questioned on his silence in the case of actor Sooraj Pancholi, who has been charged for allegedly abetting actress Jiah Khan's suicide.
Republic’s Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami recalled how Rishi Kapoor had praised Sooraj, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, for his performance in his debut Bollywood film ‘Hero’, but chose to stay silent when he was charged for allegedly abetting Jiah Khan's suicide.
“Saw ‘Hero’ partly on TV and thought was slick and both Athiya and Sooraj excelled as newcomers. Confident kids. Will surely make parents proud,” Rishi Kapoor had tweeted in 2015.
When Arnab Goswami asked him why he didn’t speak up when the same Sooraj Pancholi was charged for allegedly abetting Jiah Khan's suicide, Rishi Kapoor said:
“Law will ultimately do what it knows best.”
To which Arnab Goswami retorted:
“Hey, come on, now you are talking like a politician.”
Rishi Kapoor was quick to respond to the remark and said:
“Arre, what politician! How do you expect me to pass a comment when something is not proved. How can I say anything about Sooraj Pancholi without knowing him. I just commented about their work.”
According to the chargesheet, Jiah Khan, best known for her performance in film 'Nishabd' starring Amitabh Bachchan, was found hanging at her residence on June 3, 2013 by her mother Rabiya. She had left the house of Sooraj Pancholi, where she had been staying for two days, in the morning the same day, it said. The CBI said a three-page note seized by the Mumbai Police, which earlier probed the case, was written by Jiah Khan which narrated her ‘intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental and physical torture’ allegedly at the hands of Sooraj Pancholi which led her to commit suicide. The CBI said the letter was not signed and even not addressed to Sooraj Pancholi but it incriminated him.
