Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday presented the Union Budget 2019  - the first in the second term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami spoke to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and asked him as to what the budget has in it for the common man. He also questioned him to gather minister's insights on policies proposed by the government.

When asked as to what the Union Budget has in it for a common man and despite a magnificent mandate, why did the saffron party leading the government not be lenient to the middle-class, the IT minister Prasad said: 

"Don't ignore the big picture, with a massive mandate we are trying to achieve the goal of 5 trillion dollar economy. We have imperical performance  for it. Our economy reached 1 trillion in 55 years. In the last five years Modi govt took the economy to 1 trillion more and by this year it will grow one trillion more. Highest investment is coming, gas grid, energy grid and road grid is being constructed." 

Elaborating on the incentives and the welfare ensured by the government in the Union Budget 2019 and since the Modi government has been in power, Ravi Shankar Prasad said:

"And remember for the poorest also we are having great transformation from honey to bamboo khadi to irrigation to water, innovation. What more  generous you want? Middle class have been given incentive 5 lakh income people will not come under tax paying bracket in the interim budget we announced it, this will contiunue. Thereafter in hpusing there are incentive, whole range ofincentive have been gven. As an IT minister i feel very happy, that wqe had only two mobile factories when we came to power in 2014. Now we have 268."

When asked what about surge in price of power recorders, mobile chargers, AC, imported books, cigerrettes, silver , gold, loudspeakers, cashwes, optical fibres, marble slabs, stainless steel, he said:

"We came with duty coverage, mobile manufacturingunits flourished. Today cables are been manufactured in India. Loudspeakers, video cameras are manufactured in India. We want to encourage Inidan manufacturing more. We want to encourage Indian mining more. We are encouraging native domestic manufacturing. Imported books have been charged. Undertsnd the philosopy. Come invest in India. Make India a hub. That philosopy you have to understand."
