Finance Minister Piyush Goyal announced great benefits for the people of North East.
He disclosed at the Interim Budget that the region has seen significant development in infrastructure over the years. Not only that but he also revealed that the states of Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram have featured in the country's railway map for the very first time. The Interim Finance Minister also disclosed that the state of Arunachal Pradesh also made it on the air map, making it clear that the North East region will enjoy increased connectivity with the rest of the country.
At the 2019 Union Budget speech, he said, "People of the northeast have also received significant benefits of infrastructure and development. Arunachal Pradesh came on the air map recently and Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram, have come on India's rail map for the first time."
Not only that but Piyush Goyal also revealed that the government is planning to increase its infrastructure expenditure on the region by almost 21 per cent. This roughly translates to Rs 58,166 crore. "Allocation for the Northeastern areas is being proposed to be increased by 21 per cent to Rs 58,166 crore over 2018-19 budget estimates."
