10 Killed, Several Injured in Truck-Tractor Collision in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur
Out of the 13 passengers, 10 were declared dead at the scene, while three injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Mirzapur: Ten people lost their lives when a truck collided with a tractor in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, late last night. The accident occurred around 1 AM on the GT Road Kachhwa border.
According to Abhinandan, Superintendent of Police in Mirzapur, the tractor carrying 13 people was heading toward Varanasi when a truck, which had lost control, crashed into it from behind. "Upon receiving the information, we immediately reached the spot and began rescue operations," he said.
"The tractor trolley, carrying 13 labourers who were returning from construction work in Bhadohi district, was hit from behind by the truck that had gone out of the driver's control," the SP added.
Out of the 13 passengers, 10 died on the spot, while three injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
"Of the 13 injured, 10 died while the three others were taken to the hospital at the IIT -BHU, where their condition is stated to be normal," the officer informed.
Police have sent the bodies to the mortuary, Abhinandan said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and ensuring assistance for the victims' families.
PM Modi Offers Condolences, Promises Rs 2 lakh to all Deceased's Kin
Prime Minister Modi condoled the loss of lives in the accident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to each of the deceased's kin and Rs 50,000 to those injured. He said, "The road accident in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in this. May God give them strength to bear this pain. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured."
State Support Following the Incident
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced a similar compensation for the kin of the deceased, ensuring that the state government supports those affected by this tragic event. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the details of the assistance via a post on X, indicating that an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be provided from the PM's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the road accident. The injured will receive Rs 50,000.
