31-Year-Old Woman Jumps Into Creek in Thane, Saved by Locals

The reason behind her suicide attempt is still not known. The Kalwa police are talking to her, he added.

Thane: A 31-year-old woman was saved by locals after she jumped into a creek in her attempt to die by suicide in Maharashtra ’s Thane district, an official said on Friday.

The woman, a resident of the city's Khartan Road area, dived into the water body at Kalwa around 9 am, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation.

After being alerted about the incident, firemen and civic rescuers rushed to the spot. By then, locals had pulled the woman to safety, he said.

The reason behind her suicide attempt is still not known. The Kalwa police are talking to her, he added.

Couple, Son Booked for Abetting Suicide of Daughter-in-law

Police in Thane city have registered a case against a couple and their son for allegedly harassing and driving their daughter-in-law to die by suicide, an official said on Thursday.

Saraswati Chaurasia (20) hanged herself in her matrimonial home in the city’s Wagle Estate area on September 4 following which police registered an accident death.

They registered an FIR for suicide abetment on Wednesday after Anita Chaurasia, sister of Saraswati’s husband Sonu Chaurasia, alleged that she was being harassed, the official said.

The case has been registered against Sonu, his mother and father Vishwambar Chaurasia, the official said, adding that a probe is underway
