The wife of a revenue official named Ashish Gupta filed a police complaint against her husband for allegedly forcefully converting to Islam to marry a Muslim woman.

Aarti Yagyasaini, Gupta's wife, claimed that her husband, who worked as a Naib Tehsildar in Uttar Pradesh's Maudaha allegedly changed his name to Mohammed Yusuf and married a woman named Rukhsaar.

Gupta, who was attached to the collectorate office as a revenue officer, was sacked from his post after he reportedly breached the employee code.

The incident came to light after a mosque caretaker named Mohammed Mushtaq pointed out that a non-Muslim named Mohammed Yusuf was coming to the mosque to pray. Soon after this, the administration alerted the cops who in turn initiated a probe against the latter.

Aarti filed an FIR against Rukhsaar's father Munna, a cleric from the mosque among others, for orchestrating the alleged conversion on December 24 ahead of her husband's forced wedding with Ruksaar.

Uttar Pradesh Police arrested all three accused for allegedly facilitating the religious conversion. Meanwhile, a search is on to trace Rukhsaar. However, cops are probing whether Gupta converted to Islam on his own accord or was compelled to convert.
