Bengaluru Braces for Heavy Rainfall Today; IMD Issues Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city as cloudy skies are predicted to persist throughout the day.
Bengaluru: Bengaluru is bracing for heavy rainfall on Sunday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues yellow alert with warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures could reach up to 28 degrees Celsius.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city as cloudy skies are predicted to persist throughout the day. Residents should prepare for extreme humidity levels, expected to reach 75%, which will make conditions feel more uncomfortable.
Air Quality and Wind Conditions
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecasted to remain moderate, approximately at 38.0, which is generally considered acceptable for most people. Winds will blow steadily from the east at a speed of approximately 11 km/h. While these wind conditions may provide some relief, they are not expected to alleviate the prevailing humidity or the intensity of the rainfall.
Widespread Rain Across Karnataka
The yellow alert issued by the IMD is not limited to Bengaluru. Coastal regions, as well as North and South Interior Karnataka, are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and squalls. The IMD's predictions suggest that scattered moderate rain and isolated heavy showers will occur in various districts, particularly those adjacent to the coast and in hilly areas.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the rainfall is expected to continue through October 8, with reports indicating scattered moderate to heavy rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds across Malnad districts and coastal regions. This extended period of rain is likely to affect daily life and transportation across these areas.
Weather Outlook for Upcoming Days
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts that rain in Bengaluru will intensify, with more consistent rainfall expected in the coming days. The temperature range will remain relatively stable, fluctuating between a minimum of 20 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius. The persistent eastward winds will likely continue, maintaining the rainy and humid conditions that have characterized the city's weather recently.
