Bengaluru Rains: No Respite Likely Soon, Waterlogging Causes Traffic Chaos Amid Yellow Alert
The downpour, which began late Saturday, caused widespread flooding and traffic disruptions across the city.
Bengaluru Rains: Bengaluru faced another round of heavy rainfall from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, just days after a short break allowed the city to recover from earlier storms. The recent downpour caused traffic jams and flooding, making it difficult for commuters to get through waterlogged streets. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city due to ongoing heavy rainfall and has warned that more showers are expected in the coming days, as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal persists.
Return of Heavy Rainfall
Late Saturday night city again witnessed heavy rainfall, just days after a brief pause allowed some recovery from earlier downpours. Commuters were left navigating through waterlogged streets as the heavy rain led to massive traffic jams and localized flooding in several areas.
Impact of Weather System
Bengaluru has been facing non-stop rain for over a week now. The heavy downpour is happening because of a low-pressure weather system in the Bay of Bengal, which has been pushing moisture over the region. The rain is expected to continue until at least October 25.
What to Expect in Coming Week
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Bengaluru will see cloudy skies, with chances of rain and thunderstorms over the next few days. Temperatures will stay between 20°C and 28°C. While the rain might ease a bit in some places, on October 22, light rain is expected. However, from October 23 to 25, more steady and stronger rains are likely, meaning people should prepare for wet weather all week.
Struggles for Commuters
On Saturday evening, as the heavy rain came down, many people heading home from work found themselves stuck in long traffic jams. Flooded roads made things worse, and many were left waiting for hours to get through the waterlogged streets. According to the IMD, Bengaluru recorded 17.4 mm of rain by 8:30 PM on Saturday.
