New Delhi: A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, till June 6. He was produced before the Patiala House Court under heavy security cover.

Rana, recently extradited from the United States, is facing prosecution by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his direct involvement in the planning and execution of the 2008 Mumbai terror strikes.

On May 3, the NIA collected his voice and handwriting samples in line with court orders. Judicial Magistrate First Class Vaibhav Kumar supervised the process, where Rana was directed to provide written samples of alphabets and numerals.

Legal aid counsel Advocate Piyush Sachdev confirmed that Rana complied fully with the court’s directive.

Earlier, the Special NIA Court, presided over by Judge Chander Jit Singh, had granted permission to the agency to obtain these forensic samples. Rana stands accused of conspiring with Pakistan-based operatives to orchestrate the deadly terror assault that claimed over 170 lives in Mumbai.
