80 Houses Set Ablaze By Miscreants After Firing In Bihar's Nawada

Nawada: In Bihar 's Nawada district, a group of miscreants on Wednesday evening set ablaze around 80 houses in the Mahadalit Tola area under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station area after firing over some alleged land dispute. The fire engulfed the entire village leading to a panic-like situation in the village. After the incident, Sub-Divisional Officer Akhilesh Kumar, Sadar DSP along with a large number of police force arrived in the village.
Following the incident, heavy police deployment has been done in the area amid rising tensions.
According to the sources, the people of the Mahadalit community had been living on government land for the last decade. On Wednesday evening, a group of miscreants reached the area and opened fire. Thereafter, they set the houses on fire while the people were present inside. As the people of the locality saw flames and smoke emanate from their surroundings, they immediately rushed out.
The locals tried to douse the fire, but were unable to save their houses.
According to sources, over 100 police personnel are present at the spot. The flames have been brought under control. However, it remains unknown as to who is behind the incident. Efforts by the police are underway to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
Sources claimed that the miscreants set houses on fire in Krishna Nagar Tola of Dedoor village of Mufassil police station area. Reportedly, bullets were also fired by the miscreants. According to the preliminary information, there has been a long-standing dispute between the people of the Paswan and the Manjhi community regarding non-cultivated land. Both the parties have received the government paper. The matter is sub judice.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Nawada district said, “As per the information that we have received around 7.15 pm, 40-50 houses were burnt by miscreants. We have carried out survey and have found that 21 houses are completely burnt. There is no casualty as of now.”
“Main accused is arrested where as other 10 people are detained. There is a land dispute that is going on between the two sides because of which this incident has occurred. Police will camp here until the situation becomes normal,” the SP added.
