BREAKING: Court Rejects Narco Test Of RG Kar Rape-Murder Accused Sanjay Roy

Sanjay Roy Narco Test Denied: A Kolkata court on Friday rejected the Narco test of RG Kar rape and murder accused Sanjay Roy. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought permission to conduct a narco-analysis on the prime accused, citing inconsistencies in his multiple statements, the need to determine if he was stalking Abhaya, to identify any accomplices, and to ascertain if the attack was planned; the court has yet to grant permission.

The CBI had then applied to Sealdah Court to conduct a narco-analysis test on the accused, Sanjay Roy. Roy, the prime suspect, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was arrested a day after the body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the state-run facility on August 9.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched Sandip Ghosh's relative's house near the airport and recovered an answer sheet from RG Kar's medical exam, along with a tender copy. 

The protesting junior doctors accused the West Bengal administration of being inflexible by not permitting live streaming of the meeting to resolve the RG Kar stalemate. They also clarified that they had not demanded CM Banerjee's resignation, despite her offer. One of the doctors said, “The chief minister's remarks are unfortunate. We wanted the talks to take place. However, the state administration was adamant about not allowing live streaming of the meeting. Our demands are justified. We wanted live streaming for the transparency of the meeting.”

On Thursday, Bengal CM  Mamata Banerjee urged the protesting doctors to return to work, adding that she has no greed for her CM post, but is more concerned about justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and treatment for ordinary citizens. CM Banerjee said, “I am ready to resign from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I am not concerned about the post. I want justice for the victim, I am only concerned about ordinary people getting medical service.”

A women-run Durga Puja committee in Siliguri reportedly declined the honorarium of Rs 85,000 offered by CM Banerjee. Committee Secretary Neli Bhowmik said, “We had a meeting in which we took this decision—not to accept the honorarium. A doctor was brutally killed at RG Kar Medical College, and it has been a month with no justice. Hence, we thought it wouldn't be right to accept money. It will impact our arrangements, but members will contribute to share the financial burden. It's not that we will never accept the honorarium; we will reassess in the future. This incident has been so heart-wrenching that we had to make this decision.”

A large contingent of police personnel has been deployed in and around 'Swathya Bhavan' at Salt Lake to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement.

The agitating doctors said their demonstration outside 'Swathya Bhavan', the state health department headquarters, will continue until key demands are met, including the suspension of Police Commissioner, Health Secretary, Director of Health Services, and Director of Medical Education. "We will continue our agitation despite wanting to resume our work, but not until our demands are met," members of the protesting doctors' forum said.

Doctors said many common people showed spontaneous solidarity by bringing food and essentials, either by cutting back on their Durga Puja festival budget or celebrating birthdays with the protestors.
