The Karnataka government on Tuesday deployed two senior IAS officers to coordinate with Kerala in rescue operations, reported Onmanorama. 

While replying to the discussions on the Union Budget 2024-25 in Lok Sabha, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said that budget 2024 has allocated increased funds for social sectors including agriculture, education and employment.

FM has clarified the discriminatory budget allegations by various opposition leaders.

She said a misleading campaign is being promoted. “It pains me to know that they could say that you are not mentioned in the budget speech, you get nothing.”

“In a budget speech if a state’s name is not mentioned, this does not mean the state does not get anything,” FM clarified.

The budget aims to achieve Viksit Bharat’s vision by 2047, FM said.

From an unprecedented fiscal deficit of 9.2% in FY21, “We aim to come down to 4.9% this FY.”

“We are complying with fiscal deficit trajectory. We will bring it down to below 4.5 per cent by 2025-26,” Sitharaman added.

According to WIMS Medical College, 48 people are under treatment and 4 bodies have been brought here so far: Medical Officer.

Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the landslides in parts of Wayanad. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

Distressed the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected. Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @pinarayivijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there.

I am deeply anguished by the massive landslides near Meppadi in Wayanad. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I hope those still trapped are brought to safety soon. I have spoken to the Kerala Chief Minister and the Wayanad District Collector, who assured me that rescue operations are underway. I have requested them to ensure coordination with all agencies, set up a control room, and inform us of any assistance needed for the relief efforts. I will speak to Union Ministers and request them to provide all assistance possible to Wayanad. I urge all UDF workers to assist the administration in the rescue and relief operations.

250 members of Fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF and Local Emergency Response Team are involved in the rescue operation in Wayanad Churalmala. An additional team of NDRF has been directed to reach the spot immediately said, CMO Kerala

Landslide occurs in Wayanad following heavy rainfall. Health Department - National Health Mission has opened a control room and issued helpline numbers  9656938689 and 8086010833 for emergency assistance. Two Air Force helicopters Mi-17 and an ALH will depart from Sulur at 7.30 am. Rescue operations will be coordinated.
