West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "DCP North (Abhishek Gupta) will also be removed and a decision will be taken about the new DCP tomorrow. Apart from this, full attention will also be paid to the security of the doctors."

“Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal did not wish to continue,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that IPS officer Vineet Goyal will no longer hold the position of Kolkata Police Commissioner. 

“New commissioner of Kolkata Police will be appointed on Tuesday,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said.  

“No punitive action will be taken against protesting doctors,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said at a press conference. 

“Have urged agitating docs to withdraw cease work as three of their five demands have been accepted,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee appealed to doctors. 

“A committee headed by the Chief secretary will look into demands of agitating junior doctors,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said at a press confernce.

The CBI on Monday interrogated RG Kar hospital's former principal Sandip Ghosh and police officer Abhijit Mondal together in connection with the rape and murder of the doctor, officials said.Ghosh and Mondal, the officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, were asked to detail their activities on August 9 immediately after they got the news about the doctor being found dead at the hospital, they said.

The meeting between the West Bengal government and the agitating junior doctors got over after nearly two hours, after which both sides were in the process of finalizing the minutes of the meeting, official sources were quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 

The NDA government and the BJP have planned events across the country including a blood donation camp in the national capital to mark the new dispensation's 100 days in office on Tuesday. 

The day also coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 74th birthday. To mark the PM's birthday, BJP national president JP Nadda will launch a blood donation camp under 'Seva Pakhwada' and also inaugurate an exhibition on Modi's life at the party headquarters here.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that the Ministry of Home Affairs will open 16 new Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars in Manipur to provide essential commodities to the common people at reasonable prices. Of the 16 such stores, eight will be in the valley and the remaining eight in the hills, he said.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday dismissed BJP MP Harsh Mahajan's application urging the court to reject Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi's plea which challenged the procedures followed in deciding the winner of the February 27 Rajya Sabha poll in the state after the two were tied at 34 votes.

"I find no merit in any of the contentions raised by the respondent/applicant (Mahajan) for rejecting the election petition filed by the petitioner and consequently the application is dismissed," a single-judge bench of Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua said.

Singhvi had filed an application in the High Court on April 6, more than five weeks after he lost the poll to Mahajan, challenging the interpretation of the draw of lots rules by the Returning Officer after there was a tie.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually flagged-off a new Vande Bharat Express train between Durg in Chhattisgarh and the port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

This was the second Vande Bharat Express, a semi-high-speed air-conditioned train with modern passenger amenities and upgraded safety features, launched in the state.

The PM virtually flagged off the train from Ahmedabad, while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was linked to the inaugural programme held at Raipur railway station through video conferencing, a Railway official here said.

The opposition BJP in Jharkhand will launch six ‘Parivartan Yatras’ from September 20 with the goal of exposing the alleged "failures" of the JMM-led alliance government and aiming to "uproot" it in the upcoming assembly elections, a senior party official said on Monday.

The number of Vande Bharat trains plying in Maharashtra increased to eleven as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three new services via video link from Ahmedabad on Monday.

The new trains will be operated on Nagpur-Secunderabad, Kolhapur-Pune, and Pune-Hubballi routes, officials said.

Until now eight Vande Bharat Express trains were operated on various routes in Maharashtra by the Western Railway and Central Railway.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat trains are operated by Western Railway, and Mumbai-Madgaon, Mumbai-Solapur, Mumbai-Sainagar Shirdi, Mumbai-Jalna, Nagpur- Raipur, and Nagpur- Bilaspur by the CR.

The meeting was originally scheduled at 5pm.

Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday lashed out at the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre over the 'one nation, one election' issue, saying it is not possible under the present Constitution and requires at least five constitutional amendments.Replying to a question on reports that the BJP-led NDA government would implement 'one nation, one election' within its current tenure, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not have the numbers to place those constitutional amendments either in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Tuesday a plea of the Muslim side against the Allahabad High Court order rejecting their petition challenging the maintainability of 18 cases related to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute in Mathura. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Sanjay Kumar will hear the plea filed by the Committee of Management Trust, Shahi Masjid Idgah against the August 1 order of the high court. The mosque management committee's plea has been filed through advocate RHA Sikander.

The police have banned the flying of drones, paragliders and hot air balloons in certain areas in Madhya Pradesh's Indore during President Droupadi Murmu's two-day visit starting September 18, an official said on Monday. Drones, paragliders, hot air balloons and other items are banned in the 3-km radius of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, MG Road, Residency Kothi and Bhanwarkuan intersection in the city, the official said.

As rallies continue to sweep the city streets demanding justice for the raped-murdered woman medic of RG Kar hospital, hundreds of school teachers joined the protests on Monday.The teachers marched from College Square to Shyambazar calling for the arrest of all those involved in the incident and a speedy trial.

The Manipur government on Monday lifted the temporary suspension on internet services in the five valley districts with immediate effect.

Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar said the state government has reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and decided to lift the internet suspension, which was imposed as a preventive measure in the public interest on September 10.

The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Tuesday a case it has initiated on its own following the rape and murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata amid the ongoing protests by doctors in West Bengal.

The hearing assumes significance as resident doctors continue their strike despite the apex court’s directive to them to resume work by 5 p.m. on September 10 to avoid punitive action by the state government which had claimed that their absence from work had led to the death of 23 patients till September 9, the day the case was last heard.

Ruling BJP's Sirsa candidate Rohtash Jangra on Monday said he has withdrawn nomination for the seat, indicating that the party is likely to extend support to Haryana Lokhit Party chief Gopal Kanda.

Kanda is a sitting MLA from Sirsa. He had earlier extended his support to the BJP government.

Four persons were killed and five injured when a speeding pickup truck ran over them here on Monday morning, police said. The injured were sent to Aligarh for treatment, while the driver of the vehicle was detained, they said. Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar said around 6 am, some people from Bhopatpur village were sitting on the side of the road when an oncoming vehicle from Gawa hit them at high speed, due to which four people died on the spot.

The campaign chief of former US President Donald Trump on Sunday made shocking revelations claiming that gunshots were fired at a golf club where the ex-president was playing. Just after that US Vice President and Democratic Party's Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris posted on X (Formally Twitter), said she had been "briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida. I am glad that he is safe." Ms Harris said, “Violence has no place in America.”

Reacting to apparent second assassination bid on Trump, US President Joe Biden reiterated "there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country." He added that he is "relieved that the former President is unharmed." He further said that he has directed his team to ensure that Secret Service has every resource and protective measure necessary to ensure the Trump's continued safety.

Following another "assassination attempt" on Donald Trump near his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday, law enforcement has arrested a man in connection with the attack. The arrested accused has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh (58). Media reports citing FBI claimed the former US President was the subject of an 'apparent assassination attempt' at his Florida golf club.
