BSF rescues 47 buffaloes, foils smuggling attempt in Meghalaya's border operation
BSF in Meghalaya foiled a cattle smuggling bid, rescuing 47 buffaloes intended for illegal transport to Bangladesh.
Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya stopped a smuggling attempt and rescued 47 cattle that were being taken to Bangladesh through the bordering areas of Meghalaya. The BSF team was alert and managed to prevent this illegal act.
"On December 30, 2023, vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted cattle smuggling attempts of miscreants by rescuing cattle heads (buffaloes) from the International border of Meghalaya. The cattle were being smuggled to Bangladesh through the bordering area of West Jaintia & East Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya," the BSF press release read.
The cattle, specifically buffaloes, were being smuggled across the international border of Meghalaya, particularly from the West Jaintia and East Khasi Hills districts. The BSF shared that they received information about this smuggling attempt and promptly conducted a special operation near the border.
During their operation, the BSF team discovered the cattle hidden in a jungle area close to the international border. As per reports from officials, these animals were meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh. The BSF seized the cattle and later handed them over to the local police for further action. "Acting on specific information, the BSF party conducted a special operation near the International border. During this operation, the party managed to seize 47 cattle, which were concealed in a jungle area near the International border with the intention of smuggling into Bangladesh," the BSF statement added.
