Jammu: An alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan reportedly prevented a major security breach in Jammu and Kashmir's high security Kot Balwal Jail on Tuesday by foiling an attempt to smuggle a mobile phone inside the jail premises by two suspects. The CISF jawan kept a close watch on the suspected movement of a bike outside the jail compound. When the duo attempted to throw a cricket ball inside the jail, it was immediately noticed and seized by CISF personnel. Probe revealed that a mobile phone and charger were hidden inside the ball.
Officials said that during the morning hours, two suspected individuals were seen roaming in the area close to the boundary of the Kot Balwal Jail when dense fog had engulfed the area. Taking advantage of the weather condition, the two reportedly attempted to throw something inside the jail that was detected in no time by the CISF jawan and handed over to the security in-charge. "Upon further investigation, it came to light that the cricket ball being hurled inside the jail compound had a mobile and charger inside it, which seemed to be meant for a jail inmate. The number of the bike couldn't be traced by the jawan deployed on duty due to dense fog cover. CISF has initiated an investigation at their level. Jammu and Kashmir Police is also probing the matter," the security in-charge added.
CISF has handed over the case for probe to Jammu and Kashmir Police and Gharota Police team has started investigation on the same. A senior Jammu and Kashmir Police officer said that considering hardened terrorists are lodged in the high-security jail, the matter is sensitive in nature, adding that such breach cannot be ignored by considering it as a standalone incident.
Another official privy to the development said that cyber wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police too has been involved in the investigation in tracking down the owner of the mobile, pushed inside the jail, by carrying out forensic analysis.
It is mention-worthy here that multiple cases of pushing digital devices as well as drugs inside the jail from outside and various cases have been worked upon by Jammu and Kashmir Police in the past.
