Civil Aviation Ministry Calls High Level Meeting Over Multiple Flights Receiving Bomb Threats

A high-level meeting was called on Wednesday after several airlines in country reported receiving bomb threats, forcing them to land at nearest airports.

New Delhi: A high-level meeting has been called on Wednesday after several airlines in the country reported receiving bomb threats leading to many of them landing at the nearest airports.  

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu will hold the meeting with the Bureau of Civil Aviation, CISF, and other senior officials in airport security over the bomb threats. More than 10 bomb threats have been received on social media in last 24 hours, official sources were quoted as saying by news agency ANI. 

‘Threats Originated From London…’

“It has been informed some threats were originated from London and from other countries. In the last 24 hours, we have received several bomb threats in many sectors. We are taking up all the calls and also informed concerned police officers regarding the threat to identify the person behind it," ANI quoted an official working at airport security. 

Air India Flight Landed At Ayodhya Airport

Earlier today, an Air India Express flight landed in UP's Ayodhya airport following bomb threat. 

“Air India Express, along with a few other operators, received a specific security threat from an unverified social media handle. In response, security protocols were promptly activated as directed by the Government-appointed Bomb Threat Assessment Committee. The flight landed safely, and the aircraft will be released for operations following all mandated security procedures,” said Air India Express spokesperson.  

IndiGo Flights Landed In Jaipur After Threat

In Jaipur, an IndiGo flight from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday made an emergency landing here following a bomb threat, an airport official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 

The flight took off from Dammam airport in Saudi Arabia and was scheduled to land at Lucknow airport. It was diverted to Jaipur for emergency landing, the official said.

The plane is at the airport's isolation bay and security check is going on, the official added.

In a statement, IndiGo said, "We are cognisant of a situation involving flight 6E 98 from Dammam to Lucknow. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and we are working closely with the relevant authorities and taking all necessary precautions as per the guidelines."
