A desperate gangster of notorious Gogi Gang was nabbed by the Outer North District police in Delhi after a brief encounter. During the incident, the accused sustained a bullet injury on his leg and was shifted to a nearby hospital by the police team. One country-made sophisticated pistol along with two cartridges were recovered from the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North District), Ravi Kumar Singh identified the accused as Karan Thapa, a resident of Delhi’s Alipur. The injured accused underwent treatment at the hospital and is now being interrogated by the accused to ascertain further information about his gang members.

Accused was involved in extorting money from Delhi-based businessmen

The DCP stated, “Information regarding the collection of extortion money from local business people was received at Alipur police station. A case was registered and the investigation was taken up. It was established that the Gogi gang's operations have been taken over by notorious gangster Yogesh alias Tunda, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail, and he is making these extortion calls through his co-associates.”

To counter these criminal activities, the Outer North District team sprang into swift action. During investigation, it was revealed that one Sushil Kumar along with his associates Harsh alias Chintu and Karan Thapa, was extorting money from businessmen in Alipur and nearby areas on the instructions of Yogesh. Sushil was arrested by the police on December 13th this year.

Further based on the information revealed by Sushil, another co-accused, Harsh was apprehended on December 19th from Sonipat. Meanwhile, information about another absconding Gogi Gang member actively involved in extortion was received. A trap was laid by a Special Staff team of the Outer North District, under the supervision of ACP Yashpal near the Shamshan Ghat in Mukhmailpur village.

“When Karan Thapa arrived and was asked to stop, he attempted to flee on a motorcycle and opened fire at the police. The police retaliated to this and a bullet fired by Head Constable Dinesh injured him in the left leg. He was subsequently apprehended,” DCP Singh said.

Further investigation into the matter is being carried out.
