Kerala Daylight Heist: 12-Member Gang Steals 2.5 kg Gold in National Highway Robbery
A 12-member gang stole 2.5 kg of gold and kidnapped two individuals during a daylight robbery on Kerala's National Highway.
A gang of 12 members carried out a daring daylight robbery on the National Highway near Peechi in Kerala , cornering a car, kidnapping two people, and looting over 2.5 kg of gold ornaments, the police said on Thursday.
A normal day turned into a tragedy when the gang executed the robbery, blocking a car on the road, kidnapping two individuals, and stealing 2.5 kg of gold ornaments. A police official briefed news agency PTI about the incident.
The entire episode was recorded by the dashcam of a vehicle traveling behind, which surfaced on social media and went viral. It showed three SUVs in succession cornering a sedan by blocking it on the National Highway, where the road was narrowing due to an under-construction flyover.
The police official stated that a complaint regarding this incident was filed on Wednesday, and an FIR was lodged under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to news agency PTI.
The FIR claimed that the incident took place on September 22 when both victims, identified as Arun Sunny and Rojy Thomas, were kidnapped.
The complaints in the FIR alleged that they were beaten and that jewelry worth ₹1.84 crore was looted by the gang. They were released later. The police said they are investigating the case.
