Delhi: Shelly Oberoi, the Mayor of Delhi has reacted to the deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to waterlogging in Rajendra Nagar; she has said that whoever is responsible for it, won't be spared.
Three UPSC aspirants, Shriya, Navin and Taniya died in the basement of Rajendra Nagar's Rau's IAS Study Circle, due to waterlogging after rain in Delhi.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi had reached the site of the incident at night and had been there when the rescue operations were being carried out.
Shelly Oberoi said that no person or organisation, responsible for this mishap will be spared.
In her words, “As soon as we came to know about the incident, MLA Durgesh Pathak and I came here immediately. We have heard that a drainage or sewer blasted like a flash flood and the basement got filled with water."
She further said, "The investigation and rescue operations are underway. Everything will be clear in some time. Any person responsible, MCD or any other department, will not be spared.”
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi also said that this is not the time to get into politics and that action must be taken.
The Delhi Mayor said, "This is not the time to make allegations. We should rise above politics and take action..."
According to the Delhi Fire Department (DFS), a call about waterlogging was received from the Rao IAS Study Centre at about 7 pm.
"A total of five fire tenders were rushed to the site. The basement was full of water," an official said.
The body of a female student was retrieved from the site during the rescue operation by the NDRF, local police and fire department, the officials said.
Later, bodies of two other students were retrieved; a total of three aspirants lost their lives.
