Dallas: Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met Rahul Gandhi in the United States, as the latter is on a a 3-day visit to the country.
DK Shivakumar and Rahul's meeting hold significance in wake of some Congress leaders eyeing Karnataka CM's post amid row over the alleged MUDA scam.
There was a lot of debate happening in the Congress over whether Rahul Gandhi would meet him in the United States or not.
Earlier, a letter from various congress leaders to Congress high command complained about 5-6 party leaders and openly expressed aspirations about becoming the Karnataka Chief Minister amid row over the MUDA scam.
In the letter market to Rahul Gandhi , the Congress leaders said, “As you know that with the great efforts of our party leaders and workers our party came to power in Karnataka by winning 135 seats out of 224 Assembly seats in 2023 elections. As assured by our party all 5 Guarantees including Shakthi, Anna Bhagya, Gruhalakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, and Yuva Nidhi, have been implemented by spending more then Rs 58,000 crores per year. The people of Karnataka have been very much happy and supporting our party to a greater extent. Consequently, our party has won 9 parliamentary (Lok sabha) seats in 2024 elections as against the claim of BJP & JDS that they will win all the 28 seats. The BJP & JDS jointly have taken it very seriously and want to destabilise our elected Government in Karnataka.”
"All of a sudden they have taken up the issue of "MUDA" against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, even though there is no role of Siddaramaiah. They have managed to get sanction from Governor of Karnataka under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act for enquiring in regard to allotment of 14 sites as against 3.16 acres of land belonging to Parvathamma, wife of Siddaramaiah. The sanction order of the Governor has been challenged by Siddaramaiah before the High Court," the letter said.
“The court has ordered not to precipitate the issue during the pendency of the matter before court and has been hearing the matter on merits expeditiously,” it added.
“In this background the BJP and JDS Party leaders jointly have been vehemently demanding the resignation of the Siddaramaiah, from the post of Chief Minister. In this political scenario, more than six leaders including senior Ministers are issuing statements claiming the post of Chief Minister instead of fighting against BJP & JDS. Due to this many of our leaders and workers are getting demoralised and losing their hopes in the government and the party,” they said in the letter.
“Similarly people of Karnataka are slowly losing their faith and confidence with our party and government, because of infighting and reckless statements of our leaders. The state government's administration too has been hampered to a great extent. Therefore, we humbly appeal to your esteemed office to take note of the statements issued by the said leaders and warn them and also direct them not to issue such damaging statements in future in the interest of Congress party and Karnataka state,” the letter mentioned.
