'Immense Optimism Towards India': PM Modi Meets Top Tech CEOs in New York

New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a CEOs roundtable in New York on Sunday after addressing Indian community at the enthused diaspora event in Long Island. The CEOs meeting was attended by big tech heads including Google, Adobe CEOs.

The Prime Minister met a host of tech leaders representing industries including semiconductors, electronics, and biotechnology as Modi told them about opportunities, offers India has to offer.

Apart from Google's Sundar Pichai and Adobe's Shantanu Narayen, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, AMD CEO Lisa, Moderna Chairman Noubar Afeyan.

India Creating Opportunities, Says PM Modi

Earlier, during address to the Indian diaspora, PM Modi said that India no longer waits but is now creating opportunities. He said that India is going to become a semi-conductor power of the future and announced an upcoming chip park in West Bengal's Kolkata. The Prime Minister also told the Indian community that India has become world's second largest phone manufacturer. 

Terming India as a "land of opportunities", Prime Minister Narendra Modi told a mega gathering of Indian-Americans that he has set very ambitious goals for the country during his third term.

Speaking at the packed Nassau Veterans Coliseum on Long Island in New York, Modi said he is pursuing a "three-fold sense of responsibility" in this term.

'India Elected Modi Sarkar For Third Consecutive Time For First Time in 60 Years' 

"After going through this tough election process, this long election system, something unprecedented happened in India (this year). What happened… 'Abkibaar Modi Sarkaar'," Modi told thousands of Indian Americans, amid chants of 'Modi-Modi'.

"For the first time in 60 years, the people of India have given a mandate which has great significance. During my third term, I have very ambitious goals to achieve. We have to move forward with three times the strength,” he said.

"Every Indian has confidence in India and its achievements. India today is a land of opportunities. It's no longer waiting for opportunities. It is now creating opportunities,” he said, adding that in just a decade 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty.

"This was possible because we changed our old way of thinking. We changed our approach. We empowered the poor,” he told the Indian Americans. It is this new middle class, which is accelerating the development of India, he said.

Modi said he has dedicated his life to good governance and for a prosperous India. Observing that destiny brought him to politics, Modi said he had never thought of becoming a chief minister or prime minister. Over the last 10 years, people have seen this model of governance and thus have voted him to power for a third term, he added.

Boston, Los Angeles To Have New Indian Consulates 

The Prime Minister also announced that India will open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, meeting the long-pending demand of the fast-growing Indian American community in these two large American cities.

While Boston is considered as the education and pharma capital of the US, Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, is hosting the next summer Olympics and current US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti is the city’s former mayor.
