New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts across multiple regions, forecasting heavy rainfall in various parts of the country for the coming days.
An orange alert has been issued for the Konkan- Goa region today, October 11, while several other states are under a yellow alert due to anticipated moderate to heavy rain.
Heavy Rainfall Alert
The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall for several regions today, especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala , South Interior Karnataka, Konkan Goa , Madhya Maharashtra , Arunachal Pradesh , and Gujarat . These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, with localised flooding possible in some areas. The alert signals citizens to be prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions.
Yellow Alert for Multiple States
In addition to the orange alert in the Konkan- Goa region, a yellow alert has been issued for Madhya Pradesh , Maharashtra , Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala , Gujarat , West Bengal, Assam , Meghalaya , and Sikkim. The yellow alert serves as a warning of moderate rainfall that could potentially impact daily life, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
The IMD advises caution as moderate to heavy rain may result in minor disruptions in traffic, public transport, and local infrastructure in these areas.
Orange Alert for Kerala and Tamil Nadu
The weather is expected to intensify tomorrow, October 13, with Kerala and Tamil Nadu under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD predicts continuous downpours in these regions, urging authorities and residents to take necessary precautions against flooding and waterlogging.
Additionally, Gujarat , Konkan- Goa , and the Nicobar Islands are also likely to experience heavy rains, though they are currently under a yellow alert for October 13.
Very Heavy Rain Alert in Tamil Nadu and Kerala
The rain is expected to escalate further on October 14, with very heavy rainfall predicted for Tamil Nadu and Kerala . IMD has warned that these areas may witness extremely heavy showers, potentially causing flooding, landslides, and significant disruptions to transportation and daily activities.
South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kachchh are also under a heavy rainfall alert for the same day, though the impact in these regions is expected to be moderate compared to Tamil Nadu and Kerala .
IMD Advisories for Fishermen
Given the heavy rainfall forecast, the IMD has also issued advisories for coastal areas, particularly in regions like Tamil Nadu, Kerala , and Gujarat , where fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea due to strong winds that may reach 35-45 km/h. This advisory is valid until October 14, when conditions are expected to improve.

October 14: Very heavy rainfall alert for Tamil Nadu and Kerala; Heavy rain expected in South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kachchh.
As heavy rains are expected to continue over the next few days, the IMD advises residents in affected regions to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
