'Impressed by PM Modi's Vision': Former BJD MP Sujeet Kumar Joins BJP
Former BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar joined the BJP in the presence of senior party leaders on Friday.
New Delhi: Former BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar joined the BJP on Friday, following his expulsion from the BJD earlier in the day for anti-party activities. Kumar also resigned his Rajya Sabha membership. Kumar's formal induction into the BJP took place in the presence of senior party leaders, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, Odisha in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, and BJP's chief spokesperson Anil Baluni.
During a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Kumar explained his decision to join the BJP. He cited his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s vision for India’s development by 2047 and Odisha 's development by 2036 as his primary reasons. Kumar emphasized his long-standing belief in putting the nation first, reflecting on his past work with international organizations like the UN and the World Economic Forum.
Kumar expressed dissatisfaction with the development of Odisha 's Kalahandi district, attributing the lack of progress to "corruption and bad policy." He claimed he had previously raised these issues within the BJD but decided to join the BJP after witnessing no resolution.
He thanked BJD president Naveen Patnaik for his Rajya Sabha appointment and expressed gratitude to BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah , for welcoming him. Kumar’s goal, he said, is to strengthen the BJP and contribute to India's progress.
Union Minister Pradhan welcomed Kumar, expressing confidence in his contribution to Prime Minister Modi's vision for a developed India. Baluni praised Kumar as a significant addition to the party.
The BJD expelled Kumar with immediate effect, citing his anti-party activities. BJD chief Naveen Patnaik criticized Kumar for betraying the party and the people of Kalahandi district. The resignation was accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar, in accordance with Article 101 3(b) of the Constitution.
