Following several incidents of violent clashes against Hindus in Canada, the Consulate General of India in Toronto has decided to cancel some upcoming consular camps due to security concerns. Local security agencies informed camp organizers that they are unable to provide the minimum required protection for these community events.

On Monday, November 4, 2024, the Indian High Commission in Canada reported that a consular camp in Brampton, near Toronto, faced ‘violent disruptions’ on Sunday. This incident follows an attack on Hindu-Canadian devotees at a Hindu temple near Toronto, raising further alarm within the Indian community.

The Indian High Commission strongly condemned the violent disruption caused by 'anti-India' elements outside the Brampton camp and voiced concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in Canada.

Earlier, two Hindu temples in Brampton and Surrey were attacked, sparking demonstrations and protests at both sites. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the incidents but did not address the issue of Khalistani elements within Canada.

Relations between India and Canada have deteriorated sharply since Ottawa accused the Indian government of involvement in the 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old Canadian citizen and prominent Khalistan supporter, in Vancouver. Canada has also alleged that India is carrying out a broader campaign targeting Sikh activists within Canadian borders, which reportedly includes intimidation, threats, and even acts of violence.
