Based on information from Interpol, the CBI on Thursday arrested a German national of Indian origin with a consignment of approximately six kilos of cocaine at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

CBI said, "He was travelling on Indigo Airlines 6E 1308 from Doha to New Delhi. The cocaine was concealed in capsules hidden inside two soft toys. There were 270 capsules of suspected cocaine. The person has been detained and further investigation is continuing."

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, on Thursday, slammed Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi after his statement in Lok Sabha on Amritpal Singh. He said, "He didn't speak on the Budget. He spoke on Emergency. I think Channi doesn't know. He should know what the then Congress Government did to our Constitution on 25th June 1975. They murdered the Constitution...They declared an Emergency...Channi should read and gather knowledge of the history...You are a former CM of Punjab...You should meet the widows of the victims of the 1984 riots..."

Former Odisha CM and LoP Naveen Patnaik, on Thursday, reacting on the Union Budget 2024-25, said, "About the Union budget, I will say - it was the double-engine but double disappointment. About the state budget, I would say - I noticed that more than 40 of my govt schemes have just been renamed. I will go through it in detail and then I'll comment on the budget."

BJP MP Arun Singh says, "Akhilesh Yadav, SP and Congress are under an illusion. They won a few Lok Sabha seats through lies and deceit. They said, "Samvidhan khatre mein hai", that they would provide Rs 1 Lakh each to women...People have not forgotten the tenure of Samajwadi Party - when riots and kidnapping were rampant, goons and criminals freely roamed the streets. So, Congress and Samajwadi Party will be gradually wiped off from Uttar Pradesh."

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav says, "We knew beforehand that BJP-NDA will not give Special Status to Bihar and that JD(U) too is doing drama. With just a small amendment, other poor states like Bihar can be given Special Status. Big amendments have been made earlier too. It is our long-standing demand...NDA has deceived the people of Bihar. PM used to say that he would agitate and hit the streets. Now, the CM is not uttering even a word over Special Status to Bihar..."

He further says, "It is true that corruption has risen a lot under Nitish Kumar's governance...If probed fairly, Nitish Kumar too would bear the brunt of it..."

Releasing a white paper on the floor of the Assembly on the excise policy adopted by the previous government, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu said that a CID probe would soon be on irregularities in liquor sale during YSRCP rule.

In the name of liquor, loans were raised for a period of 10 to 25 years, CM said and felt that this is a big defrauding of the State in the country's history. A day after Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge commented that Bihar and Andhra Pradesh got "pakoda and jalebi" in the budget, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Thursday said the government has actually given "shells in the name of peanuts".  Asked about Kharge's remarks on the Union Budget 2024-25 in the Rajya Sabha, on Wednesday, Jha said, "I will talk to Kharge ji, and also say it in the House, they (government) have given shells in the name of peanuts".  Kharge on Wednesday said Bihar and Andhra Pradesh got "pakoda and jalebi" on their plates while other states got nothing as he raised the issue of alleged discrimination meted out to opposition-ruled states in the Union Budget.

Congress leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has openly supported Amritpal Singh, a pro-Khalistani leader, asserting that Singh, compared to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, has the backing of approximately 2 million people. "20 lakh Indians have chosen Amritpal in power," Channi said during Budget session in Lok Sabha on Thursday. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal as the new Director General of Police of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Unidentified miscreants torched a kutcha house in Manipur's Jiribam district, police said on Thursday. The house located in the Borobekra area of the district was abandoned by its owner after violence broke out in the district, they said. The miscreants ransacked the kutcha house before setting it on fire on Wednesday night, the police said.
