LIVE: Cyclone over Bay of Bengal causes rains in Chennai & parts of Tamil Nadu
Chennai Rains LIVE: As the monsoon season continues, Chennai and several other regions in Tamil Nadu are once again at the mercy of unrelenting rains. The IMD has issued a flood warning for several districts, including Chennai, Chengalpet, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladudhurai, and Nagapattinam.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued a warning, attributing the heavy rain to a Cyclonic formation that is developing over the southwestern region of the Bay of Bengal. This weather phenomenon has an impact up to 1.5 kilometres above sea level, allowing for continuous rain and turbulent weather conditions.
Forecasts predict moderate to heavy rainfall, primarily in Tamil Nadu's southern districts, as a result of the weather system. The precipitation, which is expected to continue, has the potential to disrupt daily life and activities in the affected areas.
The bad weather is expected to last until the 19th or 20th of December, prolonging the period of concern for both local authorities and residents. This extended period of rain threatens waterlogging, flash floods, and subsequent disruptions to transportation and daily life in the region.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, take appropriate precautions, and stay up to date on official weather advisories. Local governments are on high alert, preparing contingency plans to lessen the possible impact of the impending heavy rain on the affected regions.
