Indigo Passenger Caught Smoking Mid-Air On Pune-Bound Flight From Delhi
A passenger on a Pune-bound Indigo flight from New Delhi was caught smoking mid-air inside the aircraft’s lavatory.
Pune: A passenger on a Pune-bound Indigo flight from New Delhi was caught smoking mid-air inside the aircraft’s lavatory. The crew members, present on the flight, caught the passenger and reported the incident to the pilot. The information was later passed on to the police at Pune Airport, following which a case was registered against the passenger.
According to the reports, the Pune police booked the 38-year-old man after the plane landed at the Pune International Airport on Monday. The police stated that the incident took place on an Indigo flight from Delhi to Pune that landed after 1 am. The accused passenger is a resident of Delhi’s Okhla Vihar.
The flight crew informed the ground staff about the incident soon after the aircraft landed, and the passenger was handed over to the police. An FIR was registered at the Vimantal police station on the basis of a formal complaint by a security executive of Indigo.
The accused passenger has been served notice by the Pune police to be present and join the investigation of the case.
The FIR said the flight attendants detected smoke inside a lavatory around 12.30 am, half an hour before the flight was to land. They recovered parts of the cigarette from the dustbin and seized the lighter from the passenger.
A case was registered under Section 25 of The Aircraft Rules, 1937, and Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to acts endangering the life or personal safety of others.
Further legal action is being taken into the matter.
