Jalandhar: In the past few months, several cases of hit-and-run have been reported, especially in Maharashtra. A new hit-and-run case has been reported in Jalandhar, Punjab.
A speeding car on the Pathankot-Jalandhar Highway lost control and ran over pedestrians on the footpath, killing two and injuring two others.
A speeding Bolero ran over four people who were sitting and having dinner on the footpath; it has resulted in the death of two individuals and has seriously injured two others who are being treated at the hospital.
The speed of the car and intensity of the accident was such that a youth was flung in the air, metres away from the accident spot.
The Road Safety Force reached the accident spot immediately and the driver of the car, Shubham, a resident of Haryana has also been taken into custody.
According to Inspector Baljeet Singh, the driver was dropping off some luggage at Pathankot and returning; he was supposed to go to the workshop chowk near Tagore Hospital.
An investigation is underway because the cause of the accident is yet to be known; preliminary investigation reveals that the driver lost control of the steering wheel which caused the accident.
