Bengaluru: In a major relief for NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday quashed all criminal proceedings initiated against him by the Karnataka police over his ‘Taliban-like rule’ remark on a Muslim orphanage. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chief was also accused of trespassing into the Muslim orphanage. The police had registered a case on a complaint filed by the secretary of the orphanage.

Karnataka HC Justice M Nagaprasanna allowed Kanoongo's petition for quashing the FIR and subsequent criminal proceedings initiated against him by the Bengaluru police in November last year.

Pertinently, the state police had registered a case against Priyank Kanoongo following a complaint made by one Ashraf Khan, secretary of the said orphanage.

The Court noted that the alleged post made by Kanoongo on X did not make any reference to terrorism as alleged in the original complaint.
