Kolkata: A massive fire erupted at a building in central Kolkata's Dalhousie area in the wee hours of Saturday, prompting several fire tenders and first responders to rush to the spot.
As many as seven fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze that broke out around 4.30 am at a building behind the Bankshall Court in Garstin Place, officials said. They added that no one was injured in the fire.
"The blaze was brought under control within an hour. The cooling process is ongoing at present. Though it seems that the fire was a result of an electrical short circuit, we are waiting for the forensics report to confirm the cause," said an officer.
In a separate incident reported from Central Kolkata, a massive fire broke out in a restaurant located on rooftop of a high-rise building at Park Street and Camac Street crossing on June 11.
The fire department deployed as many as 15 engines and controlled the blaze within two hours. According to officials, there were flammable materials inside the restaurant, including gas cylinders. They added the ceiling of the restaurant was covered with asbestos, and as soon as the fire started, it quickly spread to the roof.
