New Delhi: A ticket examiner’s quick action and preparedness saved the life of an elderly passenger who suffered a heart attack on a train travelling from Bihar 's Darbhanga to Varanasi. The elderly passenger, identified as BP Karn, was travelling with his brother in the first-class coach when he suddenly complained of sharp chest pain. His brother immediately used the RailMadad portal of the Indian Railways to send out an emergency alert seeking assistance.

Ticket Examiner Responds to Emergency Alert

Ticket examiner Savind Kumar, upon receiving the alert, rushed to the coach where he found Karn unconscious. Acting quickly, Karn's brother contacted their family doctor, who advised immediate administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Kumar, determined to save the passenger, followed the doctor's instructions and administered CPR for 15 minutes, ensuring that he performed the procedure correctly by checking in with the doctor over the phone.

Passenger Revived and Hospitalized

After sustained efforts, Karn regained consciousness. After reaching Chhapra railway station, a medical team, prepared in advance due to the emergency alert, was ready to take over. Karn was promptly hospitalized for further treatment.

Recognition for Heroic Effort

Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Bhushan Sood lauded Kumar’s timely action and said that he would be felicitated and awarded a cash prize for his life-saving efforts.

CPR in Medical Emergencies
