'Asked Them To Come With Open Mind Not Demands': Mamata Banerjee On Protesting Doctors

At least three people were hospitalised after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder near Sukhatal Pump House in Uttarakhand’s Nainital on Thursday, officials said. 

A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, administration and doctors reached the spot and started evacuating people from their homes, they said.

The second phase of Congress' 'Kedarnath Pratishtha Raksha Yatra', which stopped midway due to a cloudburst on the Kedarnath trekking route, started on Thursday.

State Congress Vice President Mathuradutt Joshi said this padayatra started from Sitapur in Rudraprayag district, where it had to be stopped on August 2, under the leadership of State Congress Committee President Karan Mahara.

The AAP candidate from the Julana assembly seat, wrestler Kavita Devi said, "The fight is one-sided and I have faith in my people. Whenever I have played for the country, I have always got a medal and they have given me a lot of respect. We do not have good hospitals, schools and roads. The people of Julana have not seen development."

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit and the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Kulgam police have intensified security measures, including Nakas (checkpoints), frisking operations, and area domination patrols along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. On Chandigarh's suspicious explosion, Gopesh Malhotra, owner of the house said, "I stay with my father in this house. Yesterday at around 6 pm, a person came out of an autorickshaw and hurled an object towards us and a blast took place. I could never imagine it was a grenade. I checked on my father and tried to catch him but he managed to escape. It was a huge blast, the windows were broken. Luckily, no one was injured. We do not have enmity with anyone. Police are conducting an investigation. I am not aware of the reason behind this. One of my tenants who was a retired police officer used to stay here in 2021. He left from here around 1.5 years ago."

On Nagamangala stone pelting, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said, "It is a very unfortunate decision and their role of the government is very unfortunate. It was a well-planned attack on the procession of Lord Ganesha. Despite that Congress government says that it is not communal violence. They are trying to protect the people involved in such heinous acts."
 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The eviction drive happened peacefully. When the Congress started opposing the eviction drive in the morning, the situation became worse and a large number of people with lathis, and bamboo sticks attacked the police and government officials team who went to the area today. 22 police personnel and a Revenue Circle officer were injured. Police also resorted to firing shots and two people died and seven others are injured."

On West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's statement, Governor CV Ananda Bose said, "In solidarity with the Bengal society, I resolve that I will socially boycott the Chief Minister. Socially boycott means I will not be sharing any public platform with the Chief Minister nor will I participate in any public program which involves the Chief Minister. My role as Governor will be confined to the constitutional obligations which I have discharged in respect of the Chief Minister. Nothing more, nothing less. I am deeply pained that serious allegations of a criminal nature have been levelled against the highest officer who is supposed to prevent crime in Kolkata, the Kolkata Police Commission."

Dr Anurag Mandal, a junior doctor who was part of the delegation that went to meet CM Mamata Banerjee, said, "We just want our meeting should be in front of everyone. We don't want the recording because the recording can be edited. Everyone can see the live streaming. Our only motive is that everything should be in front of everyone. We've full faith that it (meeting) can happen. We want live streaming. Our protest will continue till we get justice."

On West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's remark 'I am ready to resign', BJP leader Roopa Ganguly said, "Let us start tomorrow's day with this good news. She should at least resign from the post of Health Minister tomorrow."

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee offers to resign saying, "I am ready to resign from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I am not concerned about the post. I want justice, I am only concerned about justice getting served."

On RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctors didn't turn up for a meeting with the chief minister, CM Mamata Banerjee said, "I tried my best to sit with the junior doctors. I waited 3 days for them that they should have come and settled their problem. Even when they didn't accept the verdict of the Supreme Court, I waited 3 days with my highest officials, including Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DG and my MoS. I am sorry. I apologize to the people of this country and the world who are supporting them (doctors), please give your support. I don't have any problem. We want justice for the common people. We want justice for the treatment of common people. We want that as per Supreme Court instruction they must join their duty. Though, 3 days passed after the Supreme Court verdict but we are not taking any disciplinary action because sometimes we have to tolerate. It is our duty to tolerate sometimes."

On junior doctors who didn't turn up for meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee said, “People who didn't show up after calling for this meeting, I forgive them and urge them to return to their duties. I tried my best to meet with the junior doctors and waited for three days. Still, we are not taking any action and are tolerating this with patience. I am ready to even resign if needed.” 

On junior doctors' demand of live-streaming the meeting between them and the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee said, “Only Supreme Court can live stream we cannot.”

On junior doctors choosing to boycott meeting with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee said, “We waited for two hours and today we thought of waiting for 2 more hours but they couldn't manage. They are right about their live-streaming demand but we have our limits. We have specified on that email that when the meeting will happen everything will be recorded. Our chief secretary said it clearly that there is systems in place for recording. We said that all discussions will be accurately recorded. There were three video cameras.” 
 

As junior doctors remained firm in choosing to boycott meeting the chief minister before live streaming is arranged, Mamata Banerjee said, “If we talk, five new topics and 5 old topics will arise.  But, by discussion, we can resolve the issues.”

As junior doctors remained firm on not meeting the chief minister without the arrangements for live streaming, Mamata Banerjee stated, “We have sent a letter but we have not received a positive response. We have asked them to come with an open mind but not demands.”

As the doctors remain firm on arrangements for live-streaming of their meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party tweeted, "Hon'ble CM Mamata Banerjee
is waiting at Nabanna for a holistic discussion on safety and security of doctors. But, it seems that the Junior doctors are not prioritising a cooperative and collaborative dialogue. May good sense prevail."
 

As the junior doctors refused to meet the chief minister the arrangements of live-streaming of the meeting, the West Bengal chief secretary said, “We have made adequate recording arrangements. We have the same objective there is no scope for differences.”

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court grants bail to Vinod Chauhan in connection with the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) probe into the Delhi Excise Policy case. Chauhan was arrested by the federal agency in May as part of the investigation.

No live streaming of the meeting is taking place. The doctor's not entering the meeting venue till demands of live streaming are accepted.

Junior doctors protesting over the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, arrive at West Bengal Chief Minister's Office, Nabanna. This development came up after the West Bengal government issued a letter to junior doctors, requesting them to come to Nabanna to attend a proposed meeting for the restoration of normalcy to ensure treatment and health services to the common people.

The protesting 30-member delegation of doctors of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital reached Nabanna. The meeting with the chief minister is to take place shortly. 

A 15-member delegation of the Bnegal government wrote a letter to the agitating doctors and has called for a meeting at 5 pm today. 

Panic was triggered around RG Kar Medical College and Hospital site after an unattended bag was found near the venue on Thursday.

A massive fire broke out at women in Madurai's Katrapalayam. At least 40 students were on the premises at the time of the incident.

According to the Madurai District Collector MS Sangeetha, two people were killed while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

"Two people died and two others were injured and were admitted to hospital for treatment.  An inquiry is underway with the hostel owner and action will be taken in this regard."

The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) on Thursday released a list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. 

Several restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order situation following clashes between two groups in Karnataka's Mandya during the Ganesh Idol procession on Wednesday night. So far, the police have detained more than 45 people in connection with the violence.

Further, law enforcement has declared a high alert in the area and imposed Section 144, which restricts a gathering of over five people, to bring the situation under control. Section 163 of BNS has also been imposed as the situation continues to remain tense.
