Maharashtra Police Exhume Body of 3-Year-Old Girl Buried After Fatal Accident, Driver Arrested

On Friday, police in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district exhumed the body of a three-year-old girl whose death in an accident over two weeks ago had gone unreported to the authorities.

The driver of the dumper truck, which allegedly crushed the young girl to death at Malewadi in Sawantwadi tehsil, was apprehended. He faces charges for both the accident and the subsequent destruction of evidence, according to a police official.

The girl's parents, who are migrant workers from Chhattisgarh, were involved in the incident.

Following the accident on August 5, the driver, his assistant, and the girl's parents collectively decided to bury her body, the official revealed.

Acting on a tip-off, the district police launched an inquiry and exhumed the body with the necessary court approval.

A further investigation into the case is currently underway.
