Man Smuggling Liquor Worth Rs 1 Crore Into Bihar Arrested In Noida
The accused, identified as Sunil Kumar from Ludhiana, was found with 570 boxes of alcohol valued at Rs 1 crore in his truck. Police has arrested the smuggler.
Noida: A 36-year-old man was apprehended from the Noida-Greater Noida expressway for allegedly smuggling liquor from Punjab to Bihar.
The accused, identified as Sunil Kumar from Ludhiana, was found with 570 boxes of alcohol valued at Rs 1 crore in his truck.
According to ADCP Noida, Manish Mishra, the arrest was made with the aid of local intelligence and an informer, who led the police to Kumar on the service lane of the expressway near Chhapraula cut.
During questioning, Kumar revealed that, due to the alcohol prohibition in Bihar and the lower prices of liquor in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, he and his associates would transport inexpensive English liquor from Chandigarh to Bihar using large vehicles, especially ahead of Diwali and other holidays.
"On the night of Aug 29, he hid 570 boxes of English liquor between plywood boards and loaded them on a truck. He changed routes and entered Delhi, travelling through the main roads of Noida and the service road of the expressway. From there, he was planning to take the peripheral route through Moradabad to Bihar. This would have resulted in a profit of around Rs 50 lakhs," he said.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Excise Act at the Expressway police station.
