Military Chopper to Anti-Drone Systems, Here's How Security Forces Are Combatting Manipur Attacks

Anti-drone systems have been deployed in Manipur after surge in violence including weaponised attacks that have claimed several lives and destroyed properties.

Imphal: Manipur has been witnessing multiple attacks by suspected Kuki militants in the past few days that have killed several people and have also caused significant damage to properties. To combat the violence and the ongoing attacks, the security forces have deployed anti-drone systems; this comes after deployment of a military chopper for patrolling.

Anti-Drone Systems Deployed to Combat Manipur Violence

The attacks in Manipur started on September 1 when drones dropped RPGs in parts of West Imphal district, killing two people including a woman. Since then, several drone attacks, rocket attacks and firing has been taking place in parts of Manipur .

Manipur Police, in a statement has revealed how the security forces have deployed anti-drone systems to control the attacks and the violence in Manipur . The statement by Manipur Police says, "AR has deployed a few anti-drone systems in the State at fringe areas to repel any rogue drones. CRPF has also tested one anti-drone system and given it to the force deployed in the State. Some more anti-drone guns are being brought to the State by CRPF shortly. The State Police has also started the process for procurement of anti-drone system to enhance its security measures and tackle threats from drones effectively.

Seeing the ongoing violence in the state of Manipur , a military chopper has been deployed and is being used for aerial patrolling. Thousands of people across five districts of the Imphal Valley formed human chains on Friday to protest the attacks by militants

State Govt Declared ‘Public Emergency’ in 5 Districts

The Manipur government in a notification said, "In view of unrest and prevailing situation in the state and keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers, all government and private schools, central schools will stay closed on September 7." The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a conglomeration of valley-based civil bodies, has declared a "public emergency" across the five districts of Imphal valley with immediate effect. The government cannot be further trusted to protect the lives of people. The public must decide its own way to protect themselves.” COCOMI also organized human chains in which school and college students, as well as women from various localities, lined up along roadsides in Thoubal Bazar, Lilong Chajing in Thoubal district, and Sekmai, Kwakeithel, Singjamei in Imphal West district raising slogans condemning the recent attacks in Koutruk and Senjam Chirang."

Manipur Violence: Death Toll Continues to Rise

Amid the ongoing attacks in Manipur for the past week, a fresh attack occurred in the morning on Saturday and claimed six lives; the casualties were a result of firing that happened in the early hours of Saturday. Two rockets were fired in the Bishnupur district of Manipur on Friday, killing one and injuring five others; the attack has been carried out by suspected Kuki militants. The rocket attacks came after drones were employed to drop bombs on people at two nearby places in Imphal West district earlier this week. The rocket attacks in Bishnupur did not just result in a casualty and injuries, but it also destroyed several bunkers in the areas.
