Monitor Social Media Ahead of Final Polls In J&K: IGP Kashmir Instruct Cops

Srinagar: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the law and order situation in Srinagar ahead of the upcoming final phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official statement, the meeting began with the participating officers briefing the IGP Kashmir on the overall security scenario and providing insights into the existing security challenges.

IGP instructed district SSsP, cyber cells, and IT and social media teams to monitor online platforms and identify those spreading rumors and posting incriminating content.

The IGP underscored the importance of strict adherence to SOPs and highlighted the need for coordination meetings with the public to maintain peace in the valley.

The third and final phase of polling in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for October 1, with vote counting set for October 8. The first two phases of polling took place on September 18 and September 25.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has stated that the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls saw a voter turnout of 57.31 percent.

The ECI mentioned that Budgam recorded a voter turnout of 62.98%, Ganderbal at 62.51%, Poonch at 73.80%, Rajouri at 70.95%, Reasi at 74.70%, and Srinagar at 29.81%. Polling took place across six districts: Budgam, Ganderbal, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Srinagar, with 25.78 lakh eligible voters casting their ballots to determine the fate of 239 candidates in this second phase.
